Founder and Chairman
Marc Brutten is founder and chairman of Westcore Properties. Since the company’s inception in 2000, Marc has overseen its strategic investment in office, retail and industrial properties in key markets around the world–building its domestic and international portfolio to over 24 million square feet and over $2 billion in total asset value.
Marc is recognized as one of the most prolific commercial real estate investors on the west coast. Over the past 30 years, he has facilitated more than $6 billion in property acquisitions totaling over 850 buildings and 40 million square feet. He has been particularly successful in the acquisition of portfolios and properties that require repositioning and aggressive management in order to function more successfully in their respective environments.
Prior to forming Westcore Properties, Marc was president of Shidler West, Inc. Under his direction, the company’s industrial portfolio grew to more than 11.3 million square feet and the company’s asset value grew from $20 million to $800 million.
Marc started measuring his investment performance in 1993 and over the last 22 years, his audited unlevered investment return is 22% per annum.
Marc is involved in numerous professional and community organizations including National Association of Industrial and Office Parks (NAIOP), Society of Industrial and Office Realtors (SIOR), and the International Council of Shopping Centers (ICSC).
Marc is also a member of the Burnham-Moores Center for Real Estate’s Policy Advisory Board Executive Committee at USD. He is a regent at Boston College and a trustee at his alma mater, the University of California, San Diego.
Donald H. Ankeny
President & Chief Executive Officer
Don Ankeny is President and Chief Executive Officer of Westcore Properties.
He leads the company’s portfolio of Industrial properties, which currently totals more than 9 million square feet.
Additionally, Don plays a key role in the company’s business strategy, utilizing his strong real estate and capital markets’ expertise to grow the company’s investment and operating platform.
Don’s real estate background includes starting and overseeing the real estate group of Robertson Stephens, a global investment banking firm that was acquired by Bank of America and later by Bank Boston. Under his leadership, the firm was engaged in many of the country’s significant public and private real estate transactions.
Prior to Robertson Stephens, Don was a partner with Trammell Crow Company.
Don graduated cum laude from Dartmouth College with a distinction in economics. He also holds an MBA from the Stanford Graduate School of Business.
Don is a member of the National Association of Industrial and Office Parks (NAIOP) and a Gold council member of the Urban Land Institute (ULI).
He is a former trustee of the Bishop’s School in La Jolla, CA where he chaired the Finance and Investment Committee as well as the School’s Endowment Campaign.
Don is a member of the Parents Advisory Board at Stanford University.
He is also a past recipient of the San Diego Business Journal’s CEO of the Year award and EY’s Entrepreneur of the Year award.
Romy Selati Loseke
General Counsel and Corporate Secretary
Romy Selati Loseke serves as General Counsel and Corporate Secretary for Westcore Properties, providing legal oversight for its growing U.S. portfolio and the company’s corporate governance. Romy brings over 20 years of corporate and real estate legal experience (both domestic and abroad) with specialization in complex commercial real estate, investment and finance transactions.
Prior to joining Westcore Properties, she served as associate general counsel for Md7, LLC, a wireless telecommunications real estate management company.
With Md7, Romy spearheaded the legal direction of the company’s global real estate leasing programs and worked alongside the largest wireless telecommunications operators in the U.S. and Europe. She also managed corporate governance, international expansion, litigation matters, and internal training and policies.
Romy’s previous experience includes San Diego-based law firms Hillyer & Irwin and Seltzer Caplan McMahon Vitek. Romy also served as special counsel for Solomon Ward Seidenwurm & Smith, where she was sole outside real estate counsel for Barbeques Galore, Inc., a subsidiary of an international public company.
She earned a Juris Doctorate from Boston College Law School and a Bachelor of Arts, Magna Cum Laude, from Emory University.
Chief Financial Officer
As Chief Financial Officer for Westcore Properties, Michael Helms leads the company’s finance, accounting, and investment valuation activities. Since joining Westcore in 2013, Michael has been involved in more than $3 billion in transaction volume.
Michael plays a key role in the development and execution of the company’s business and financial strategy and oversees financial reporting across Westcore’s 9 million square foot portfolio.
Prior to Westcore, Michael held finance positions with DJO Global, a Blackstone Group portfolio company, and Sony Electronics(NYSE: SNE).
He holds of B.S. degree in Finance from Virginia Tech Pamplin College of Business.
Hack is responsible for identifying industrial investment opportunities throughout Southern California, Phoenix, Salt Lake, Las Vegas, and Denver as well as maintaining oversight of the leasing efforts of Westcore Properties’ Southern California portfolio. During his tenure at Westcore Properties, Hack has been intimately involved in more than 40 transactions in excess of $2.5 billion in transaction volume and over 700 lease transactions totaling more than $300 million in gross consideration.
Prior to joining the Westcore team in 2009, Hack was a partner at Murphy Development Company, a leasing manager for Westfield America, one of California’s largest retail development companies. He has also held positions with Realty Income Corporation, Retail Insite Commercial Real Estate and CBRE.
Hack is a past president of the San Diego Chapter of the National Association of Industrial and Office Parks (NAIOP) and affiliated with several professional organizations including the Society of Industrial and Office Realtors (SIOR), the Coggan Family Aquatic Complex and several youth sports organizations. Hack is also a member of the facilities board for the Santa Fe Christian School.
He holds a bachelor’s degree in history from the University of North Carolina, Chapel Hill.
Peter Mette is a Managing Director for Northern California and the Pacific Northwest for Westcore Properties.
With more than 25 years of experience in commercial real estate, Peter has acquired more than $1.5 billion of real estate encompassing over 7 million square feet of office and industrial space.
Prior to joining Westcore Properties, Peter was a Director at Deutsche Asset and Wealth Management responsible for acquisitions in Southern California and a Senior Vice President at KBS Realty Advisors responsible for acquisitions in Northern California and the Pacific Northwest.
He holds an MBA and a Bachelor of Science degree in finance from Georgia State University.
Chief Operating Officer
As Chief Operating Officer of Westcore Properties, Matthew Bateman oversees asset management, leasing, property management, construction and insurance. Matthew has successfully led asset management for more than 100 unique investments representing 32+ million square feet in 400+ buildings throughout the U.S. He has also actively been involved in more than 200+ acquisitions and dispositions totaling over $5 billion.
Before joining Westcore Properties in 2004, Matthew served as a commercial broker with Grubb & Ellis in Los Angeles where he specialized in investment sales and leasing. He has also worked in the technology industry for Shopzilla.com in Los Angeles, and the snowboard
industry for Silence Snowboards in Carlsbad, CA. Matthew took a two-year break from Westcore to run multifamily operations for ColRich, a San Diego based family business that owns 15,000 units throughout the U.S., before returning back to Westcore.
Matthew received a BA from the University of Pennsylvania and a MBA from the University of Southern California. He served on the Board of Trustees for The Children’s School for five years, including serving as President of the Board for two years. He remains actively involved with the school.
Director of Acquisitions
As of early 2017, Mike Metzger has helped establish our new Westcore Los Angeles office and has transitioned into the Director of Acquisitions role for Westcore Properties, focusing on investments in the Greater Los Angeles market.
Mike brings 10 years of experience within the commercial real estate industry, splitting his time as a commercial broker with CBRE, specializing in Industrial & Logistics Brokerage Services within the Greater Sacramento Region, prior to joining Westcore in 2013.
Mike served as President of the Board of Directors for the Association of Commercial Real Estate (ACRE.com) in Sacramento, as well as being heavily involved with the Sacramento Regional Council for the Make-A-Wish Foundation and the American Cancer Society.
He also played NCAA Division 1 Baseball at UCLA and USD, and holds a bachelor’s degree in Political Science and Business Administration from the University of San Diego.
Vice President, Asset Management
As Vice President, Asset Management for Westcore Properties, Nick oversees all asset management functions for Southern California, Denver, Phoenix, Salt Lake City, Indianapolis, and Charlotte properties. He is currently responsible for the management and operation of over 6 million square feet of real estate across the U.S. and has been actively involved in acquisitions and dispositions totaling over $750 million.
Prior to joining Westcore, Nick served as Senior Asset Manager with the Port of San Diego, where he specialized in industrial, maritime, and commercial real estate asset management for some of San Diego’s most valuable waterfront property, including a 135-acre marine terminal, three major shipyards, the San Diego Convention Center, multiple convention hotels, and over 200,000 sf of waterfront retail.
Additionally, Nick successfully entitled, received necessary approvals and/or assisted towards development of the proposed San Diego Convention Center Expansion project, a 500-room expansion of a major convention hotel, two new 400-room waterfront hotels, a 3.5-acre waterfront park, and a 100,000 sf retail historic rehabilitation project.
Nick is an active member of the NAIOP Commercial Real Estate Development Association and the University of San Diego Burnham-Moores Center for Real Estate’s Mentorship Program. Nick also is a CCIM candidate, an IASSC Certified Lean Six Sigma Green Belt, and a certified Argus Power User.
He holds a BA from the University of San Diego and a Master’s of Science in Real Estate from the University of San Diego.
As Director of Property Management, Lori is responsible for oversight of the company’s Property Management personnel and establishment and implementation of strategies, processes and objectives related to Property Management involvement with transactions and asset management.
She is also focused on developing and maintaining relationships with key tenants, vendors and third-party associates on a national level.
As a third-party manager for Cushman & Wakefield, Lori previously managed Westcore’s Southern California portfolio including 4.5 million square feet of Industrial and Office properties located in California, Arizona and Utah.
Prior to moving to San Diego and working with Westcore, Lori worked directly for a retail developer, River Oaks Properties, in El Paso, Texas and for PM Realty Group in Houston, Texas for 14 years.
Lori is a primary volunteer for Frosted Faces Foundation, a San Diego based non-profit organization dedicated to rescuing senior animals from shelters and providing them with lifelong veterinary care and the love of a forever family.
Vice President, Leasing
As Director of Leasing, Lauren is responsible for Westcore’s leasing efforts within its 6.0 million square foot portfolio in the greater Southern California area.
Lauren focuses on effectively repositioning assets, leasing up vacancies in partnership with third-party brokers, and tenant retention.
Lauren is also involved in the disposition process; and has successfully coordinated sale transactions to institutional owners as well as owner-users.
During her tenure at Westcore Properties, Lauren has been intimately involved with more than 600 lease transactions totaling more than $350 million in lease consideration and over 30 dispositions. Lauren has successfully leased several properties to 100% occupancy and maintained high occupancy levels.
Prior to joining the Westcore team in 2009, Lauren worked at Cushman & Wakefield and Burnham Real Estate. Prior to that, Lauren was with a local San Diego multi-family development company.
Lauren is involved in the Developing Leaders Council of the San Diego Chapter of the National Association of Office and Industrial Properties (NAIOP), and the University of San Diego Undergraduate Mentorship Program.
She holds a Bachelor of Business Administration (BBA) degree from the University of San Diego, graduating cum laude.
Director of Construction
As Director of Construction, Matt oversees all active construction projects. This includes management oversight, forecasting, budgeting, scheduling and the overall repositioning of assets. Additionally, he works alongside the acquisitions, property management, and leasing teams for capital planning and to determine the construction requirements for each property.
Prior to joining Westcore, Matt was a Project Manager for JMI Realty, LLC. He has an in-depth background and understanding of the building industry and construction details through his 20+ year tenure in the business. Before joining JMI, Matt worked for some of San Diego’s largest construction firms and built an impressive resume of projects across multiple market sectors totaling over 2 million Square Feet of commercial improvements that amount to over $500 million of in-place work.
Matt graduated from California State University, Chico with a Bachelor of Science in Construction Management.
