Matthew Bateman, Westcore‘s Chief Operating Officer, focuses on operations, strategy, culture, and internal education (Westcore University). He has direct oversight of asset management, construction, property management and insurance. He also works closely with the leasing and transactions teams. He started at Westcore in 2004 as Associate Acquisitions Manager and grew with the company to become the COO.

Before joining Westcore, Matthew was a commercial broker with Grubb & Ellis in Los Angeles. He has also worked in the technology and snowboard industries. Matthew took a two-year “sabbatical” from Westcore to run operations for an owner of 15,000 multifamily units. He returned with renewed enthusiasm for Westcore and its future.

Matthew has a passion for teaching and learning. He received a BA from the University of Pennsylvania and an MBA from the University of Southern California. In 2008, he created Westcore University to better expose all team members to the inner workings of Westcore. He is also a regular guest lecturer at University of San Diego in the master’s in real estate program.
